Changing careers
Do you ever travel to work and all you think about is ‘why am I doing this?’ ‘there must be something more to life’ or ‘I really don’t want to do this anymore.’
At some point in our lives I think we have all had these thoughts. Some people carry on having these thoughts all their working lives, others do something about it. Of course everyone’s situation is different.
For some people they are the sole income, they may have a mortgage, young family or other responsibilities. Change becomes more challenging. For others the situation may be different and they seek change.
Eyes Wide Open working with clients explores the possibilities. Is career change practical, realistic and financially viable? Is the client fully aware of all their options?
During a one hour interview some of these questions will be answered. Through discussion and exploration a client will reach a well informed and realistic decision.
If the decision is to change careers or jobs, what career does the individual now look for? Eyes Wide Open has access to many career guidance tools. Together we may decide to use a tool in helping a client identify a new career or job. It may become obvious that decisions can be reached through discussion only. Whichever the client and practitioner choose identification can be achieved.
Working with Eyes Wide Open a client decides a change of career is for them. What are the next steps? We would explore transferable skills and knowledge. We would identify any shortfalls in qualifications, training or experience. Eyes Wide Open would then work with the client to develop a pathway to gaining employment in an identified position.
There is no set pattern for how long this process may take. For some it may take just one session but for others it may take longer. Every client is assessed as an individual. Eyes Wide Open would gauge how long the process would be during the first meeting. If exploration, identification and a pathway are all finalised within that first session, then that is an excellent result for both client and Eyes Wide Open.
